CAD Standards Manager
(
925)939-6014
This option allows the addition of a prefix and/or suffix to the selected (highlighted) layers (more
than one layer may be selected for modification). A prefix or suffix is often used to add
additional description to a layer. For example, different phases of a project drawing could be
identified with the addition of a prefix of the form PH1-, where PH1- stands for “phase-1”. An
example of a suffix might be “-DEMO” for “to be demolished”. Prefixes and suffixes may be
selected from their respective drop-down boxes.
Adding a prefix and/or suffix not only changes a layer’s name but can also cause a layer’s
properties to be modified. That is, a layer’s color, lineweight or linetype can be altered by the
addition of the prefix or suffix. These modifications are set when the prefix/suffix definition is
created in the Standards Manager Administration module.
It is also possible to create a wildcard definition. If the
User-Defined
prefix or suffix is available
in the drop-down list, selecting this option will activate the
Enter Prefix/Suffix
edit box. A user
defined prefix or suffix can then be entered into the box.
Clicking either the
Add Prefix
or
Suffix
button will modify all of the highlighted layers and
optionally update the layer’s properties (i.e. color, linetype, etc.) according to the prefix/suffix
definition. Note: these changes do not take effect in the drawing until the
OK
button is clicked.
To add a prefix or suffix to a
layer that already exists in the drawing
import the layer into the
Layer Creation dialog using the
method and make the desired modifications.
Note that the original layer is renamed in the drawing at the successful completion of this
process. If the original layer and modified layer are both required in a drawing, use a method
other than From Drawing to put the layer in the Create/Modify list, add the prefix or suffix, and
click the
OK
button to create this new layer in the drawing.
Layer Sets
The user can save commonly used Layer Sets for future use. To create a layers set:
1. Add the desired layers to the Layer List.
2. Click
Save Layer Sets.
3. Choose whether to save the Layer Set to the Local Library, Standard Library (for use on
multiple workstations), or Browse for a file location to save the set.
To use existing Layer Sets click
Load Layer Sets
. The selected Layer Set will be
loaded and the layers contained within it will be added to any layers already existing in
the Layer List section of the Layer Creation dialog.
Additional Layer Functions
Layer ID
Stds Manager Tab ► Layers Panel ►
Layer ID
The
Layer ID
command allows for quick identification an object's layer. When the command is
active click an object and its layer will be identified in the AutoCAD Command line as illustrated
in the figure below. If the layer is not within the current project’s standard, it will return the layer
name but show “Non-Standard Layer” for the description.
